Arthur W. Proetz was bom in St. Louis in a house at 2411 Buena Vista street (now Lemp Avenue). He grew up in the city and attended Washington University. He was a practiced surgeon and amateur photographer. Proetz also authored a book, I Remember You St. Louis, which was published in 1963. The collection was donated by Mrs. Arthur Proetz in January 1969.
SCOPE AND CONTENT
The Proetz photo collection contains a variety of St. Louis scenes in many
formats. The
collection is indexed by subject in the WHMC photo database.
SERIES DESCRIPTION
SERIES 1. The initial series contains prints ranging from 35mm contact prints
to oversize
prints in the map case.
SERIES 2. This series contains the negatives. Nitrate negatives are stored
separately in
directors office.
*note the photographs are, for the most part, arranged chronologically except
for a few
photographs that were added at the end.
