Russell D. Lark, president of Local 23 of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers, donated the papers of the AFTE to the Western Historical Manuscript Collection in September, 1979.

The collection contains correspondence, minutes, contracts and strike project files, publications, financial ledgers and reports, and convention reports of Local 23, the Midwest Council of AFTE, and of the International Federation of Technical Engineers, Architects, and Draftsmen's Unions. In 1950 the International changed its name to the American Federation of Technical Engineers and it retained that name into the 1970's.

Most of the papers were collected by Maurice Wheeler. Mr. Wheeler was president of Local 23 from 1945-1960, secretary treasurer of the Midwest Council 1958-1968, and vice president of the AFTE 1958-1960 and 1966-1970.
