The collection documents the effort by the Legal Services of Eastern Missouri to promote the passage in Missouri of a law to protect battered women. The law passed in early 1980, but was found to be unconstitutional by a circuit judge later that year. The Missouri Supreme court upheld the law in 1982. The collection was donated by Pat Martin on April 20, 1993.

SCOPE AND CONTENT
The collection contains correspondence, newsclippings, court briefs and other material relating to the lobbying effort of Legal Services of Missouri between 1978 and the passage of the Adult Abuse Remedies Act in 1980.
