Cooperative Consumers of St. Louis was founded in 1933 by consumers affected by the Depression economy. The group made volume purchases form wholesalers and manufactureres and offered merchanidse for sale to members at a reduced cost. All Profits made by Cooperative Consumers were returned to members in direct ration to the amount of individual purchases. The group held regular meetings, published a newsletter, and communicated with other consumer groups across the country. Cooperative Consumers stopped operations in the early forties after incurring more expenses than it could afford, including a union meat cutter, a delivery truck, and rent for a large, cooperative store on Delmar Boulevard.

Records of a Depression-era consumers' cooperative that made volume purchases from wholesalers and offered merchandise for sale to members at a reduced cost. Includes bylaws, membership lists, correspondence, newsletters, co-op catalogs, and descriptive literature. Arranged chronologically.
