Formerly Committee for Legal Abortion founded in 1969, Abortion Rights Alliance is the Missouri affiliate of the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL)

The alliance, a citizens group supporting the 1973 Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion, works to keep abortion safe and legal.

Maureen McCarthy became the Alliance's first director in 1978. McCarthy previously corridinated Planned Parenthood's planning information center hotline.

In 1980 members of the Abortion Rights Alliance changed its name to Committee for Free Choice. Although the group remined committed to safe and legal abortion, members felt the new name emphasized the more basic issue of a women's right over her own body.

Records include pro-choice and anti-abortion groups' pamphlets and flyers, correspondence from NARAL, memos, newsclippings, press releases and the Abortion Rights Alliance newsletter, Reproductive Freedom Letter.
