MAHPER is a voluntary professional organization made up of individuals representing schools, health and recreation agencies and other institutions interested in the development of these three fields. Its membership consists of teachers in health education, physical education, coaches, recreation leaders, nurses, health coordinators, supervisors, and administrators in these three fields and major students. Founded in 1936 as the Missouri State Physical Education Association, the name was changed two years later to reflect their broader interests. MAHPER was instrumental in revising statewide Health & Physical Education curricula.
The MAHPER Records were assembled by Dr. Kathleen Kinderfather, secretary of the organization, 1976-77, and given to the University of Missouri by the 1976 president, Feryl Graham.
