Mrs. Lucy Chambers Dies; St. Louis YWCA Founder

A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Gatesworth Manor chapel for Mrs. Lucy Matthews Chambers, who died Saturday, January 14, 1967, at St. Luke’s Hospital.

She was the widow of William Lionel Chambers, an attorney who died in 1928. Mrs. Chambers was 91 and lived at Gatesworth Manor, 245 Union bl. She was graduated from Mary Institute and the New York Art Students’ League. Mrs. Chambers was an amateur painter. Many of her works were exhibited at the Artists Guild. She was a founder of the St. Louis YWCA.

Surviving are a son, William Nisbet Chambers, chairman of the Washington University history department; a daughter, Mrs. William Edward Wiese; a brother, Claude Levering Matthews, and five grandchildren.

Private burial will be in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
