The Letters selection contains a transcription of a letter written in 1861 by William Nisbet to Leonard Matthews discussing Leonard’s marriage proposal to his daughter, Mary Spotswood Nisbet Matthews. This selection also contains transcriptions of a series of letters written by Mary Jane Baker Chambers, William Eubanks Chambers, and Robert Stuart Chambers to William Lionel Chambers during his first year in America, 1879-1880.
