Superb Floral Decorations and Opulent Appointments for the Event - Handsome Toilets and a Lavish Display of Gifts.

The marriage of Miss Mary Matthews to Mr. Charles Louis Gage took place yesterday at 5 o’clock at the residence of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Matthews, 1000 Grand avenue. The Rev. Dr. Brooks performed the ceremony and the bride and groom were attended by Misses Lizzie Gage, Belle Matthews, Laura Evans, Emily Sproule, Messrs. Will Stanard, Ed Samuel, Ed Blossom and Charles McCormick. The bridal party stood within a bower of evergreens and about the long saloon parlor were disposed pots of plants and vases of cut flowers. Two large bisque figures on the mantel had baskets on their backs filled with roses brought direct from Boston. From the door-ways drooped a double fringe of the beautiful old Louisiana moss, a novel and tasteful arrangement. The bride wore a white corded silk, with sweeping marquise train, cut round at the edges and bordered with a thick silken cord. This fell over a jupe veiled with rich flounces of point d’alquille and point duchess lace, with a side-plaited panel on the left side, edged with raveled plaitings; the pointed corsage was cut a la Modjeska, outlined in duchess lace, caught by a diamond pin, the gift of the groom; the tulle veil was fastened by pearl pins, and in her hand the bride bore a large bouquet of exquisite lilies of the valley. The bridesmaids all wore long princess trains of heavy pearl white corded silk, trimmed with lace, the corsage cut square and bordered in lace. Their bouquets were of Marshal Neil, Catherine Mermot and tea roses.

The wedding reception followed from 6 till 8 o’clock, the bridal pair bidding adieu to their friends at that time to leave for New Orleans, where they will spend their lune de miel, returning home in a few weeks. Handsome refreshments were served by Pechmann.
