Funeral services for Leonard Matthews, Jr., secretary of the Shapleigh
Hardware Co. for 35 years, will be at 2:30 p.m. today at his home at 4538
Maryland avenue. Burial will be in Bellefontaine Cemetery. Mr. Matthews,
who was 72 years old, died at home yesterday of heart disease.
He was a son of Leonard Matthews Sr., who participated in the California
gold rush and was head of a brokerage firm here. He died in 1931 at the
age of 102.
Mr. Matthews is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elvira Matthews, two brothers,
Claude L. Matthews of St. Louis and E. Orville Matthews, Parral, Mexico;
and two sisters, Mrs. Belle Norvell, New York, and Mrs. Lucy Chambers,
St. Louis. |
