to Head Washington University History Department

Professor William Nisbet Chambers, on the Washington University faculty since 1949, has been appointed chairman of the department of history effective July 1, it was announced Thursday.
He will succeed Professor Ralph E. Morrow, named acting chairman in 1958 and chairman in 1960. Dr. Morrow will now devote more time to research and teaching.
Robert R. Palmer, dean of the faculty of Arts and Sciences, announced the appointment and praised Dr. Morrow for a “truly outstanding job of building a strong department and developing a unique graduate program.”
