Dr. Verne Chaney was a chest surgeon, and he served as the secretary-general of MEDICO. He served as director of MEDICO's Asian programs from February to July, 1961. In July 1961, he helped organize the Thomas A. Dooley Foundation and served as president of the organization. He continued with the organization after the Tom Dooley Heritage, Inc. was founded in 1970.
