Lieutenant Colonel (USA Ret.) Michael
J. Bamber, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, began his military career in
October 1972 with Field Artillery Officer Basic Course at Fort Sill,
Oklahoma. During his 20 years of Active Federal Service, he served in
numerous locations in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. His first assignment was as a Forward Observer and later fire direction officer in the 2d Armored Division. He served three years active duty and separated in October 1975. In the USAR, he was a battery Executive Officer and Battery Commander in the 5th Battalion, 28th Field Artillery (8" self-propelled).
In January 1981 he returned to active duty in the Army's Active Guard Reserve (AGR) program. His first assignment was as an Operations Officer/Assistant S-3, 364th Engineer Group, which supported the 7th Engineer Brigade's wartime mission. He then attended the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, with a follow-on assignment as Assistant Professor of Military Science, Xavier University Army ROTC. During this assignment he completed requirements for a Master of Business Administration degree, which was awarded in May 1986. His next assignment was as a Personnel Management Officer and Branch Chief, US Army Reserve Personnel Center, St. Louis, MO. He attended the Army Inspector General Course in May 1993 and was assigned as a Deputy Inspector General, 65th US Army Reserve Command, Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico, and an Assistant Inspector General at the US Army Reserve Command, Atlanta, Georgia. His last assignment was as Chief, Mobilization Training Division, Deputy Chief of Plans, US Army Reserve Personnel Command, St. Louis, MO. During this time he completed the Army War College Corresponding Studies Course.
Lieutenant Colonel Bamber (USA Ret.) is a graduate of the Field Artillery Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Engineer Officer Advanced Course, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, Force Development Officer Course, Military Comptroller Course, Inspector General Course, and the Army War College. He received a BA in Economics and a Master of Business Administration degree, both from Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio.
His awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (3 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (2 OLC), Army Superior Unit Award, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal (2), and the Army Service Ribbon.
