Susan Werner
(Lecturer in Vocal Studies)
Susan Werner has been a member of the UM-St. Louis faculty since 2005. She previously served on the faculty of Lindenwood University in St. Charles Missouri, where she coordinated vocal studies for both the university and the Lindenwood Sacred Music Institute. She is a former district finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and a recipient of the prestigious Artist Presentation Society Award of St. Louis. Appearances include guest soloist with the Bach Society of St. Louis, "From the Garden Live" and the Christ Church Cathedral Concert Series. Early in her career, she was a regular performer with the St. Louis Young Audience Series and a featured soloist with the St. Louis Conservatory of Music Concert Series. With the conservatory she performed Belinda in Dido and Aeneas (conducted by Joel Revzen) as well as Euridice in Gluck's Orfeo (conducted by Nicholas McGegan). More recently Ms. Werner has been a featured performer in Dr. Barbara Harbach's 'Women in the Arts' series and the Shostkovich Commemoration-fall of 2006 at UM-St. Louis. She also essayed the role of Calamity Jane in Libby Larsen's Songs from Letters as part of the faculty recital series.
Ms. Werner holds degrees from UM-St. Louis and the University of Illinois, where she studied with the acclaimed John Wustman. She has continued post-graduated studies at Cleveland Institute of Music, Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Washington University. Ms. Werner has also taught in affiliation with the Spring Training Program-Opera Theatre of St. Louis since 1998
