Hugh Jones
Jazz SaxophoneHugh graduated from Berklee College of Music, Boston in 1992 with a Bachelor of Music Performance degree; and received a Master of Music Performance degree Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville in 1996. Jones taught music at Chaminade College Preparatory School from 1997-2004; and also taught private lessons at the St. Louis Symphony Community Music School from 1999-2000.
In 2002 Hugh taught at the International Summer Jazz Academy in Krakow, Poland; at many Jazz camps at local universities including Webster, SIUE and UMSL.
As a performer, he has performed as a free-lance musician for many artists and groups including the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, Petula Clark, and the Jim Widner Big Band. Hugh is an active adjudicator and clinician at Jazz competitions and festivals. Formerly Vice-President in charge of Jazz Bands for the St. Louis Metro District 8 chapter of the Missouri Music Educators Association. He currently serves as instrumental music director at Westminster Christian Academy from 2004-present. He is also an Adjunct Faculty member at the University of Missouri St. Louis, where he teaches Jazz Improvisation and Jazz saxophone; and performs regularly with the St. Louis Jazz Orchestra and with 4 City Saxes, a saxophone quartet. Hugh Jones lives in St. Louis with his wife, Rennae, and daughters Hannah (7) and Holly (4).
