As director of the Gateway Writing Project (GWP), Diane Scollay helped develop the GWP Graduate Certificate in the Teaching of Writing. Her passion is to work with teachers and school districts to develop in-depth professional development programs that result in ongoing, systemic writing improvement efforts. Along with Dr. Nancy Singer, Diane has conducted several research studies for the National Writing Project. The results of the studies support the claim that GWP professional development effects positive change in the way writing is taught so as to improve student achievement in writing.

Diane taught English at McCluer High School, served as a reading specialist, and was the staff development specialist for the Ferguson-Florissant School District. While director of the Ferguson-Florissant Writers Project, she had the opportunity to present writing process workshops to teachers nationwide. Whether she was working with teachers in Hawaii, Massachusetts or Texas, Diane learned how important it is to help teachers develop a strong theoretical rationale for the strategies they use. And, above all else, become writers themselves.
