Research and Logistics

Now that you know what you want to shoot and how you want to shoot it, it is time to investigate what it will take to make it happen. Complete the following activities using investigative research and logistics.

  • Scout locations and verify that the shooting ideas they have imagined are feasible.
  • Think about who needs to be involved and contact the appropriate people. Set up interview times.
  • Get permissions if necessary.
  • Prioritize and Plan the logistics of the shoot.
  • Create a rough schedule of the shooting.
  • Secure needed equipment, props, costumes etc.
  • Research necessary information by phone, personal meetings - not recorded, newspaper stories, Libraries, Magazines, on the Internet. At this stage spread the research net as wide as possible.

A helpful guide (.pdf ) for location scouting and preparation.

If you are working with students, help them understand that they might need to change their ideas once they have collected facts and discovered logistics that might inhibit them.
