Compress your Movie

The following instructions are designed to help you compress and save your finished video as a Quicktime file in iMovie. If you are not using iMovie, Please ask your technical support to help create a 320x240 Quicktime movie. When you are finished with this process you will be ready to send the video to post on Educast. We are presently limiting the videos on our site to 50Mb. The settings below yield videos that are 3.3 Mb per minute. If you have something larger just contact us and we will provide you different compression options.

Open your iMovie

Go to File> Export Movie

Choose Export to Quicktime in the drop down menu

Under the format drop down menu Choose Expert

Set the Image Settings to 320x240

Click on the Settings button in the Video section

Under Compressor Choose Sorenson or Sorenson 3

Select medium on the quality slider

In the motion menu type in 12 frames/second

Insert key frame every 12 frames

Do not check limit the data rate

Click on Audio Settings button

Select Qdesignmusic 2 as audio compressor

Select a rate of 22.100 kHz from the drop down menu

Select 16 bit recording

Choose mono for recordings with only voice and stereo if you have included music in your video

Click ok.

Now you will be prompted with a save box. Title your saved movie with your last name and the number of the video you have sent us. Make sure you include the .mov extension (i.e. simon1.mov),
