07-08 Theatre and Dance Season
RECENT TRAGIC EVENTS - By Craig Wright
Spring Production: March 6-8 & March 13-15
Lee Theater

It is September 12th, 2001; the setting is the Minneapolis apartment of Waverly, a young advertising executive. Soon to venture on a blind date amidst the television news coverage of the September 11th attacks, Waverly becomes preoccupied when she discovers that her twin sister, Wendy, a student in New York, has not been heard from. Waverly reassures herself that Wendy had no reason to be at the World Trade Center. As the evening unfolds, Waverly and her blind date, Andrew, an airport bookstore manager, realize that they are connected by a succession of bizarre coincidences. As Waverly awaits word on Wendy, the date is complicated by visits from her crazed-musician neighbor, Ron, and his girlfriend, Nancy, and a startling visit from Waverly's great aunt, Joyce Carol Oates played by a sock puppet.

CARNEVALE MORBOSO
Spring Dance Production: April 4 & 5
Lee Theater

Written and Directed by Brendan Gartland.
Enter the Carnevale Morboso where the ring master introduces the performers. The first death-defying act is a family of Acrobats; wath the father, the mother, and the son as they tempt fate at dazzling heights. The Family is picture perfect until the father's heart is bewitched by a young woman passing by.

Following the performances of the Illustrated couple and the harlequins, the magician and his lovely assistant (the young woman) perform skills of magic while his creation the mechanical music box girl, dances her redudant, lifeless routine in the shadows. The Young woman and the magician share a dance celebrating their love before the young woman makes her way to the dressing room.

The tragedy begins here...

NOISES OFF
Fall Production: October 16-20
Lee Theater

Act one of Noises Off joins a group of English actors rehearsing the play Nothing On, a bedroom farce, the night before they are slated to open a regional tour of the production.  As the actors struggle to work through the technical/dress rehearsal we are introduced to the quirks and idiosyncrasies of their “real life” personas while they deal with each other and the characters that they are playing in the farce Nothing On.

Here the seeds are laid for a slow, unwinding, descent into chaos. As the play progresses the boundaries of life and art blur, or rather collide, with the force of two very large and  very heavy, speeding even, freight-trains on an unfortunate intercourse of the head on variety.
