St. Louis Regional Partnership

for Excellence in Urban Teacher Preparation

About the Partnership

Partnership's Vision

St. Louis area urban schools are staffed completely with fully qualified teachers who are prepared for urban settings.

Partnership's Mission

The mission of the St. Louis Regional Partnership, a model collaborative, is to address the need of fully qualified teachers prepared for urban settings through programs and advocacy so that students will succeed.

Partnership's Goals for 2002-2004

  • Goal 1: Urban schools have a sufficient pipeline of soon-to-be certified teachers.
  • Goal 2: Teacher retention is increased, especially among those in first 3 years of teaching service.
  • Goal 3: Partnership has plan for its financial stability and structural needs beyond 2004.

The St. Louis Regional Partnership is a group of higher education institutions, urban school districts and education organizations that partnered to address the need for more teachers, who would have the tools to become successful teachers in urban schools.

The Leadership Team of the Partnership, when launched, included the following institutions, with the University of Missouri-St. Louis serving as fiscal agent:

St. Louis Public Schools
East St. Louis District 189
Fontbonne University
Harris-Stowe State College
Maryville University
Saint Louis University
St. Louis Community College
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville
University of Missouri-St. Louis
Washington University
Webster University
Metropolitan St. Louis Alliance of Black School Educators
St. Louis Regional Professional Development School Collaborative

An Advisory Council, comprised of leaders from each of the above institutions and several other educational entities, including education employees´ unions, provides helpful information and direction.

The Partnership is currently reviewing its future opportunities, assessing its strengths and shortcomings, and setting a vision and path of action for addressing community needs.
