As a student, you're expected to attend class regularly. Faculty members may establish penalties for excessive absences. They will usually inform students of their own policies on attendance; if you are uncertain, consult your course syllabus or ask your instructor for clarification.
University Bylaws state that students absent for more than three successive classes may be reported to the dean. You should tell your College's dean's office of an extended absence. An absence known in advance should be reported to the instructor. Make-up examinations or work missed is allowed at the instructor's discretion. If your dean excuses you from class for valid reasons, you will be permitted, if possible, to make up work you missed; the dean must notify the instructor in writing.
