Welcome to the Laboratory
Our lab's work spans clinical and community approaches to understanding and impacting women's health, and falls within the broad field of health psychology/behavioral medicine.
From a community psychological perspective, we recognize that the very best psychological treatments will never reduce the incidence rates (new cases) of mood disorders. Thus, we focus on prevention strategies and services for at-risk women living in the community – most who do not seek out mental health treatments. Basing our work on Bandura's (1997) self-efficacy theory and evidence of its pivotal role in adaptive functioning, our clinical and community-based efforts all aim to emphasize and build upon the many strengths and resources of middle-aged and older women.
