Library References for Exam 1
To retrieve materials on
reserve, look them up in "Merlin"
Reserve materials "By Professor" is easiest since
I am the only Starling in the system.
If you want to look up materials "By Course", type "UMS TJ Biol
3622" or "Cell Structure and Function".
Articles online
Some documents are accessible online via the electronic journals
available to the library.
The quality of the online article formats
varies: Some journals make articles available only as HTML (web) files.
Others offer both rapidly displaying HTML files and much more readable pdf files
that are images of the published journal pages.
Goto: Libraries, Databases, Find Journal
Name. Select "Title begins with" (NOT "Title
equals"!) in the left box and enter journal name in the right box.
Typically journal issues online date back to
the mid 1990s, although many journals restrict accessibility to recent issues
(for between 3 months and 1 year).
For decent pdf files of articles from Science, try the link to "Highwire
Press ".
