Social Work Scholarship donors Beverly Sporleder and James and Lisa Lawson
The School of Social Work offers several scholarships for BSW and MSW students:
Elaine Rosalie Lawson Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in the memory of Elaine Lawson who graduated from UMSL with her BSW in 1994.
Beverly Sporleder Jubilee Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Beverly Sporleder, longtime faculty member of UMSL Social Work.
Muriel Pumphrey Scholarship
This scholarship is named in honor of Muriel Pumphrey, one of the founders of UMSL's department of Social Work and nationally recognized social work educator.
Victor Hauck Scholarship
This award is established in memory of Victor Hauck, who served as Executive Director of the Evangelical Children’s Home for 33 years. He devoted his life to helping dependent, neglected children. He was the father of longtime Social Work director and dean Lois Pierce.
Social Work Alumni and Friends Scholarship
Awarded to Missouri undergraduate students majoring in social work who have a demonstrated high financial need.
Norman Flax & Joan Hashimi Scholarship
The Drs. Norman Flax and Joan Hashimi are founding faculty of the UM-St. Louis social work program. Both are nationally recognized social work educators who have contributed to the social work profession. This scholarship was donated by alumni and friends in honor of their more than 50 years combined teaching and service in the program.
UMSL Social Work Alumni Chapter Undergraduate Scholarship
Awarded to undergraduate students with a 3.0+ GPA wth a demonstrated record of community service and work or practicum experience.

E. Desmond Lee Gerontology in Social Work Scholarship
The E. Desmond Lee Gerontological Social Work Fellowship provides a one time stipend of $2,500 for students who are accepted into this program. Requirements include being an MSW student in good standing with a 3.0 GPA, being in the Aging and Social Work Practice Specialization, having demonstrated a strong commitment to public service, community collaboration and leadership in the field of Gerontological Social Work, and being in an aging related specialization level field practicum.

Creating Whole Communities: Opportunities for Students
Creating Whole Communities (CWC), formed in 2014, brings together the University of Missouri–St. Louis (School of Social Work, Des Lee Collaborative Vision, School of Professional and Continuing Studies and the Public Policy Research Center), University of Missouri Extension, and the St. Louis region’s neighborhoods to focus on strengthening our communities.
