SSWA Logo  Student Social Work Association

The purpose of the Student Social Work Association (SSWA) at UMSL is to initiate and maintain communications among social work students, faculty and the general public in effort to serve as a resource for united action on issues of social concern. The SSWA, a recognized UMSL Student Association, also provides social work students with many opportunities to develop leadership and teamwork skills, to get involved on campus and in the community through volunteering, serving on committees and filling elected officer positions within the association.

If you are an UMSL student who is interested in promoting university and SSWA activities that will enhance student education, personal growth, and community involvement, we welcome your involvement with our organization, a recognized Student Association at the University of Missouri -- St. Louis. Student Association Represents School of Social Work at Mirth Day!

Mirth Day Spring 2015Cindy Haller (president) and Madeline Stroder (vice president) created a version of the game Heads Up and were at the forefront of organizing the volunteers to host the booth.  It was a fun event and a great way to introduce the student association to the UM-St. Louis campus and community.  A special Thank You to all the volunteers who helped make the event a success!

Partnering with Feed My Peeps

Feed My Peeps, a grassroots organization started by Jacki Dirksmeyer, serves foster families, soup kitchens, and homeless individuals and families in the St. Louis area. Feed My Peeps picks up quality food from local grocery stores, schools, and caterers and distributes it to twelve different local organizations. The Walnut Park Neighborhood in North St. Louis has received additional services through a free thrift store that Feed My Peeps established in the basement of a local church.

SSWA Partnering with Feed My Peeps

UMSL's Student Social Work Association (SSWA)  has partnered with Feed My Peeps to provide much needed support and resources. During the Fall 2014 semester SSWA held a clothing and toy drive and the response was overwhelming. Many families and children enjoyed a warm and happy Christmas thanks to the generosity of the UMSL School of Social Work community. During the Spring 2015 semester SSWA will collect something different each month; February is "Jeans Month" and they are asking for donations of all sizes and conditions. The focus for the following months will be determined as the need is identified by Feed My Peeps
