Collaborative Logo

St. Louis area universities with social work programs developed a collaborative with the common goal to support field instructors and students during their field experience.  They provide field instructor orientation, continuing education events, a collaborative web site and online database, and a shared field instructor manual.

Partners in the Collaborative Social Work Field Education Project offer a “Field Instruction Certification” program.  Certification as a field instructor for the Fontbonne University (Fontbonne), Saint Louis University (SLU), University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) or Washington University (Brown School) involves the completion of a six-session “Field Instruction Certification” program and a re-certification process every three years.  The program focuses on such topics as values and ethics and cultural competence as they relate to field education.  This series offers information and support needed for new field instructors to provide a quality experience for students.
