Giving to the School of Social Work

Thank you for considering a gift to the School of Social Work. We are dedicated to providing accessible, affordable, and high quality degrees to a diverse, nontraditional student body. As you know, the St. Louis region is facing uncertain times and in times such as these, we see a growing need for social work services here in the St. Louis region and beyond. The School of Social Work is not immune to difficult times. With waning state support and looming budget cuts, your generous tax-deductible donation in any amount is needed now more than ever.

How to Give

There are many ways you can support the School of Social Work and its students. To give a gift to Social Work or one of its named scholarships using the University's online donation form, follow the steps below.

  1. Navigate to the UMSL Giving webpage.
  2. Click I WANT TO GIVE box on the top right of the screen. You can choose either ‘Monthly’ or ‘Now.’
  3. Enter the gift amount.
  4. Under Gift Designation, click the circle next to “Search for Designations,” which will bring up a pop-up box.
  5. You can give to one of three general funds listed under School of Social by scrolling down to School of Social Work or scroll all the way to the bottom of the form and check the box for “Other Fund,” which you may then specify in Gift Instructions box.

Social Work Gift Funds and Scholarships

Social Work General Gift Fund
The School of Social Work uses the general gift fund to support our students in various way. Some of the ways this fund is used is to support a large group of students who travel to Jefferson City each year, to support international travel for students taking part in Study Abroad programs, and to support various on-campus student conferences.

Victor Hauck Scholarship Fund in Social Work
This award is established in memory of Victor Hauck, who served as Executive Director of the Evangelical Children’s Home for 33 years. He devoted his life to helping dependent, neglected children. This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding student enrolled in either our BSW or MSW program.

Norman Flax and Joan Hashimi Master's Scholarship in Social Work
The Drs. Norman Flax and Joan Hashimi are founding faculty of the UM-St. Louis social work program. Both are nationally recognized social work educators who have contributed to the social work profession. This scholarship was donated by alumni and friends in honor of their more than 50 years combined teaching and service in the program. This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding graduate student in their last year of study.

Muriel Pumphrey Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established in memory of Muriel Pumphrey, an important pioneer in the field of social work and the founder of Social Work at UM-St. Louis. It is awarded to an outstanding senior in our BSW program.

Elaine Rosalie Lawson Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established as a memorial to Elaine Rosalie Lawson and is awarded to outstanding students in our MSW program who demonstrate an interest in providing social work services to underserved populations.
