INFORMS is establishing a rigorously-refereed electronic journal on management science and operations research (MS/OR) education, one that authors will view as a desirable place to publish and readers will consider a valuable resource. This education journal will facilitate communication and networking among MS/OR educators in a period where considerable changes are taking place in MS/OR teaching, and stimulate production of high-quality educational materials. The electronic format of the journal will allow innovations in content and reader involvement not possible in a print journal, such as immediate electronic access to data sets, software, Java applications, interactive graphics, multimedia applications, hypertext links, and full-text searching.
The goal of the INFORMS Transactions on Education is to provide interesting and useful information, ideas, software, and data sets to an international readership of MS/OR educators. ITOE will publish high-quality articles on a variety of topics related to the teaching of MS/OR, for instance cases, spreadsheet applications, review and opinion articles, discussion of the impact of new technologies and new methods of assessment on MS/OR education, and reviews of software, books, and teaching materials.
The journal will improve classroom practice by providing a forum for the exchange of ideas related to the teaching of MS/OR, by providing access to current thinking about curriculum and pedagogy to the diverse audience of MS/OR teachers, and by making data sets, programs, and other teaching materials available quickly, easily, and at no cost to instructors. The journal will benefit faculty members by providing a respectable publication outlet for work on MS/OR education and by increasing the technological literacy of readers and authors.
The first issue of the journal will be available in September 2000, and the journal will be free of charge during its first year. We are currently accepting submissions for future issues. If you are interested in contributing to this journal as a subscriber, as an author, or as a referee please contact Erhan Erkut (erhan.erkut@ualberta.ca).
