Young Highlights

Ella Flagg Young School

Do the names Ms Keske, Mrs. Schwartz, Ms Cohen, Mrs Sheridan and the principal Ms Sampson ring a bell? Do you remember making serving trays etched by using acid, learning square dancing (and it being a part of the graduation ceremony), 8th grade field trip including a Wendella boat tour, the green one piece girls gym suits, autograph books, and the little store across from the school where you could buy penny candy? Check out this photo -- are you in it? Do these photos look familiar?

If you remember Young, you might remember this Young Highlights, from June 1960, put together by the students.

If so, we want to hear from you! If you were one of the people who were with us at Young -- student or teacher -- please email Dee Carlson, and let us know where you are and what you are doing!

Other News

Do you know what Ella Flagg Young did to earn having a school named after her? Neither did we, but check it out! Upon her death in 1919, Jane Addams wrote of Young, "She had more general intelligence and character than any other woman I knew." Why didn't they tell us these things?
