IS 5800 -- Management Information Systems
Final Exam

Answer each question clearly and neatly. Type (wordprocess) the answer to each question. Answers to individual questions may be no more than 2 pages each, double spaced with 1" margins. If I cannot read your answer or understand your grammar, or if you provide multiple answers, the answer will be wrong.

You may have notes, books or other reference materials that you desire. However, if you do use the thoughts and/or words of another individual, this must be cited. That is, if you were influenced by a journal article, cite that as a reference. If you used the words in that journal article, put quote marks around them and cite from where it comes. You must do the exam alone.

This exam is due Monday, December 11 by 5 pm. Turn in hard copy of the exam -- do not email the exam to me.

Each question is worth 25 points.

1. You have just been hired by the local election commission to manage the next election. Write a memo that identifies the various options for voting and the issues associated with their implementation. They are, of course, interested in electronic voting machines; what should be their position?

2. Make a recommendation to your boss about computer security at your company. Be sure to include information about how you would protect sensitive data (from hackers and accidental damage), virus protection, hardware and software protection, as well as information about how you would protect users' rights. Be as specific as possible.

3. When discussing the UMSL ERP project, Dr. Tom emphasized the importance of constituent buy-in to ensure project success. This is a principle has been demonstrated time and time again for all IT-based projects. Discuss why it is important to get constituent buy-in to ensure success. Also discuss what your responsibilities, as a manager, might be to ensure the step is not missed.

4. Dr. Rottman discussed the need to manage the jobs that are outsourced. Some tasks, he claimed, should be outsourced and others should not be outsourced. Argue that point and identify how you would know which should and which should not be outsourced. How is this issue impacted if the corporation simply opens an office in another country rather than contract with a company in that company?
