“Speaking Pictures: New Media, Composition and the Fine Arts”

In this interactive workshop, you will learn how a National Writing Project teacher has used digital compositions to teach basic writing skills and, in the process, has changed the social dimensions of the learning environment by using peer driven groups and technology to shift literacy from individual expression to community involvement.

Mr. Ryan will discuss practical strategies—from prewriting to publishing—for the classroom and help teachers set up a digital toolbox for teaching their wired, socially networked students.  Finally, Mr. Ryan will show how a community of Gateway Writing Teachers is collaborating online on their use of digital media.
