Our Saturday Academy students are immersed in mathematics, science, written and oral communication, career research, personal and professional development and college planning.

The UMSL Bridge Program's Cigna Saturday Academy is held on the first two Saturdays of each month from October through February and provides an intensive 10-Saturday course of study for students in grades 9 through 12. All activities will be held on scheduled Saturdays from 7:45 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

  1. Academic Skills Workshops include Math, Science and Writing:
    Students participate in critical thinking activities designed to enhance their ability to perform well on college entrance exams.
  2. Career Development and College Planning Workshops:
    Freshmen and sophomore students will be involved in structured career planning workshops developed to guide students through important key steps for career identification and effectively develop a focused career plan. All junior and senior students will be engaged in workshops structured to assist with the overall college admissions, financial aid and scholarship research process.

Program Requirements

  • All applicants must be currently enrolled in grades 9-12 in a St. Louis Metropolitan school.
  • All applicants must have a 2.5 or higher cumulative grade point average.
  • All applicants must submit a completed application, recommendation letter and middle school final grade report or high school transcript.
  • All applicants should be enrolled in or have completed Algebra.
  • All senior participants must meet with Bridge staff at least once during the Saturday Academy.
  • All participants must agree to meet attendance, performance and behavior requirements.
  • All participants are expected to complete assigned tasks and fully participate in class activities to meet program requirements.

Application Process

The following documents must be submitted to the Bridge Program Office by the application deadline date.

  • Bridge Program Online Application: An online application must be completed by the student. Please complete all sections no later than the application deadlines. Note: The option to apply for the Bridge Cigna Saturday Academy will only be available on this form when the program is actively admitting students.

  • Recommendation Letter: Your school counselor, administrator, or instructor must complete a recommendation form on your behalf. The Recommender you list on your application will receive an email with a link to the recommendation form. Please follow up with your Recommender to ensure they complete the recommendation form by the application deadline. Note: This is not a requirement for returning Bridge participants.

  • High School Transcript: It is not necessary to wait for last semester grades to submit your student's transcript. Please upload a copy of your student's current second semester transcript that is inclusive of their cumulative grade point average. All 9th grade students are required to submit a copy of their 8th grade report card.
