The M.A. in Philosophy
UMSL began offering an M.A. in philosophy in January 2000. We currently have over 30 active graduate students, and UMSL Philosophy graduates have gone to Ph.D. programs at: Arizona, Boston University, Colorado, Connecticut, CUNY, Illinois-Carbondale, Illinois-Chicago, Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Ohio State University, Pennsylvania, Rutgers, Saint Louis University, SUNY-Buffalo, Temple, Texas, UC-Santa Cruz, Washington University-STL, and Wisconsin.
An M.A. in philosophy from UMSL can serve as preparation for more advanced graduate studies in the field. It can also be pursued for personal enrichment or career enhancement. Some of our graduates teach philosophy in community colleges or a variety of subjects in high schools. Some students enter the program with the aim of proceeding to law school or medical school. We are happy to work with smart dedicated students who did not major in philosophy as undergraduates. For more detailed information of the program, please see the links on the left.
