Chapter 38, Drill b: Use of future active participle.

In the following Latin sentences, the verb in the English phrase in parentheses can be expressed by a future active participle. Provide the participle in the correct case, gender, and number.

Example:
(We will die) te salutamus. Answer: morituri (irregular; perfect participle is mortuus): it is nominative plural because it modifies the subject of the verb, the implied nos of salutamus.

1. milites alios viderunt (the alii were about to betray )patriam.
2. Quintus (who was going to write) carmina scutum abiecit.
3. terror militum (who were about to fight) dirus erat.
4. tribunus milites (who were about to overcome [use supero]) laudavit.
5. periculum imminebat militibus (who were about to conquer [use vinco].
6. ille erat (destined to be) clarus.
7. milites sunt (about to hasten) ad Parthiam.
8. imperator abiit a militibus (who were about to build) vallum.
