Chapter 28, Drill b: Practice using the correct form of the relative pronoun.

For each of the following Latin sentences, replace the English pronoun in parentheses with a Latin relative pronoun. Give the relative clause in the following order: relative pronoun (preceded by a preposition governing it but nothing else); indirect object; direct object; prepositional phrase; verb. Omit periods and commas.

Example:
cibus, (which) cupio, est domi. Answer: quem. quem is direct object of its clause, and it is masculine singular.

1. argentum, (which) Quintus magistro tradiderat, in manibus eius erat.
2. Quintus, (whose) pater eum valere iubebat, conscendit navem.
3. cives ruerunt ad templum (near which) magistratus stabant.
4. Quintus turbam conspexit (away from which) cucurrit.
5. leges, (by means of which (i.e. by which means)) magistratus ius effecerunt, prudentes erant.
6. scelesti aedificia accenderunt (which) stabant in Foro.
7. iuvenes, (whom) Quintus occurrit, in atrio Academiae colloquium faciebant.

15. iuvenis (whom ) Quintus conspexit erat Marcus.
16. Theomnestus philosophiam docebat, (which) Quintus studere cupivit.
17. Quintus non timuit mare (across which) navigabat.
18. viae (through which) multi currebant plenae scelestis erant.
19. haec est causa (without which) nihil potest.
20. philosophi, (whom) iuvenes audiebant, multas scholas habuerunt. (here schola = lecture.)
21. studentes audiverunt laudem, (which) digni erant. (i.e. the students were worthy of praise)
22. senator iussit clientes, (who) fessi erant, postridie revenire.
23. magister magnum praemium diligentissimo puero dedit, (which) Quintus accepit.
24. mors Caesaris, (on account of which) turba per vias currebat, bellum civile effecit.
25. iuvenes salutaverunt Theomnestum, (whose) adventus gratus erat.
26. vita rustica, (about which) Quintus multa carmina scripsit, iucunda erat multis Romanis. (rusticus -a -um = rustic, in the country)
27. negotia, (which) Quintus noluit, in Foro saepe fiebant.
28. pater, (whom) Quintus confidebat, eum Romam duxerat.
29. navis, in (whose, or of which) puppe Quintus stabat, celeriter navigabat.
30. exercitus, (which) Brutus Athenis colligebat, non maior erat quam Octaviani. (i.e. quam exercitus Octaviani)
