Graduate Research Assistantship. A graduate research assistantship of 4 years duration for a Ph.D in Evolutionary Physiology is now available in the Department of Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology, Ohio State University, Columbus, OH. Project Title: The life-history-physiology nexus: constraints on the evolutionary diversification of avian life histories. Project Description: This project is an integrated, multidisciplinary, effort to understand the variation in the life histories of temperate and tropical birds and how those life histories are associated with various physiological design features. The successful candidate will be working with a team of population biologists and evolutionary physiologists studying environmental factors and physiological mechanisms that influence demographic patterns of avian populations. We will compare birds with varied life-styles living in the tropics and in temperate regions to elucidate physiological and behavioral mechanisms associated with variation in adult survival and related life-history variables. Field-work in the tropics will be completed in Panama at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Station and field work in temperate regions will take place in Ohio and in Michigan at the Kellogg Biological Station. Those interested should contact Dr. Joe B. Williams, Dept. EEOB, Ohio State University, Columbus, OH, 43210. Email = Williams.1020@osu.edu
