Into the Deep: "The Inner Compass of Discernment"
Spring Retreat

February 10-11, 2012

"And this is my prayer: that your love may increase ever more and more in knowledge and every kind of perception, to discern what is of value.” – Phil 1: 9-10

What is it?

Briefly, the title for "Into the Deep" comes from the scripture in Luke 5:4 where, after the fisherman catch nothing, Jesus tells them to, "Put out into the deep water and lower your nets for a catch." This spring retreat is designed to give students a chance to connect with the experiences and wisdom of guest speakers while offering the quiet, the time, and the space to explore their own depths for responses to the important things in their life.

The theme and topic for Into the Deep changes every year, but this year Into the Deep provides an opportunity to learn, pray, and grow closer to God through the process of discernment. This Christian tradition of decision making proves incredibly useful as we decide who we will be, what we will do, and the path our lives will take. Through our choices, we can become the person God is calling us to be. The guest speakers will share how they have been guided by their minds and hearts to find the “inner compass” of God’s presence lighting the way. The activities will provide us the focus and tools to ask necessary questions so we may receive insightful and truthful reflections. Discernment is a life-long journey so join us in taking our first steps.

Some topics/talks of guest speakers include:

1. Listening for God: How can we hear God in our world?

2. Discerning  what  we “Hear”: How do we distill the truth we’ve “heard”?

3. Confirming and Acting with Courage: How do we evaluate what we discern and act with courage?

We'll have a rockin' bonfire, a closing prayer service, and lots of games, activities, and crafts. All meals are provided!
