The Busy Person's Retreat
April 14-18, 2013

"Beware of the barrenness of a busy life." ~Socrates

What is it?
Busy Person’s Retreat is another option in our retreat program to meet our students’ unique needs.  As UM-St. Louis is a school made up of mostly commuter students who live at least 15-25 minutes from campus, it is important for us to try to offer specific retreat programming that fits in their schedule.

The Busy Person’s Retreat requires no packing, no traveling, no fees, no taking off from work or school.

The retreat begins with an orientation of interested students and 2-3 spiritual directors on Sunday, April 15 at 6pm.  The three directors introduce themselves, speak a little about their spirituality and interests and the students choose who they want to guide them the next four days. Students sign up for 30 minutes of shared reflection with a spiritual director for four consecutive days, at the times that are convenient for them.

There is no cost, and all are welcome.

What do I do?

  • Pre-Register: register online by Wednesday, April 10, 2013
  • Attend Orientation session on Sunday, April 14 from 6 – 8:00 pm (dinner included)
  • Set aside about 30 minutes of prayer with scripture each day.
  • Talk with a spiritual guide for about 30 minutes each day.

  • A bible
  • A notebook to write reflections or questions
  • An open heart and mind
  • Your schedule for the week
  • A willingness to journey with God.

There is also a 5:30 Mass and special 6:30 Soup Dinner on Tuesday, April 16 highlighting vocational calls to ministry, to religious life, and to the priesthood. All are welcome, without pressure. We'd love for the Busy Student Retreat folks to join the interesting conversation about how some of our guest speakers discerned their life's work, while enjoying delicious food!
