[Welcome to Natural Bridge]
Natural Bridge, a journal of contemporary literature, is committed to presenting the best in new writing from established as well as promising writers of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry, including literature in translation. Published twice yearly at the University of Missouri - St. Louis. Selections are made by a prominent guest-editor along with a staff of editorial assistants who are graduate students in the MFA program.
On this website, you will find news, calls for submissions, as well as samples of our past issues. A non-profit literary journal supported by English Department at UM-St. Louis and the St. Louis Regional Arts Commission, Natural Bridge sincerely appreciates your support.
Updates:
Natural Bridge Issue 26 is now available!
Now accepting submissions online through Submishmash!
There is a $3.00 charge for non-subscribers to submit online. This is not a reading fee, but helps maintain the submission service and website. This fee is waived for current subscribers. Save this fee by subscribing now.
If you are unsure about your subscription status, please email natural@umsl.edu with the subject “Subscription Status” and include your full name and mailing address in the body of the email.
We will continue to accept submissions free of charge through snail mail, but will no longer accept submissions via email. Submissions sent by email will not be read.
The editors invite submissions of poetry, fiction, personal essays, and translations year-round. Because we are tied to the academic calendar, we will not read between May 1 and August 1. We normally take 4-8 months to respond. We will post a notification here if we are currently not reading new submissions.
