China Collaborations


Since 2004, Murphy has been involved in numerous projects in China. On November 10, 2004 Murphy gave a keynote address at the International Forum on Education for Sustainable Development, Beijing, China.

On May 18, 2006, Murphy gave a presentation on Sustainable Leadership at Beijing Normal University. Pictured below Murphy with Dr. Wang Min of the Department of Geography, Beijing Normal University.

Yuntaishan World Geopark

On May 26, 2006, Murphy attended the International Symposium on the Development Within Geoparks, near Jiaozuo City, China. As a part of the conference Murphy had the opportunity to tour Yuntaishan World Geopark and participated in a hike that took her across seven mountain tops (pictured above right). Below, Murphy is pictures with Mr. Han, the Director of Yuntaishan World Geopark.

On May 25, 2007 Murphy was a guest of Incarnate Word University, China and Hua Li Technical College, China. She gave a presentation on the "The Leadership Brain" to more than a hundred students.

On June 13, 2007 Murphy and her colleagues Carolyn Cottrell and Joan French gave a presentation at Hong Kong University at part of the International Association of Special Educators (IASE) conference. The presentation was entitled "Brain Works."

October 2007, Murphy, along with colleagues from the University of Missouri, St. Louis, was invited by Beijing Normal University to attend a conference sponsored by the International Geographical Union's Commission on Geoparks and the University. She gave two presentations on Sustainable Leadership.

In the spring of 2007, Murphy and colleagues form the University of Missouri, St. Louis attended a conference centered on World Geoparks. As a result of this conference, Murphy worked with Dr. Dongying Wei to establish a Sister Park between the Grand Canyon National Park and Yuntaishan World Geopark. In August 2008, Murphy, along with Dr. Dongying Wei, attended the International Geography Union (IGU) in Tunisia. Dr Murphy is the only U.S. members of the Commission on Geoparks (COG) sponsored by the IGU. Both Wei and Murphy are members of the Board of Directors of COG.
