How does American guilt culture compare to the Japanese shame culture. Why is suicide a means of saving face and honor in Japan, but a disgraceful act in the United States? How does concern for group-identity instead of self-identity effect individual behavior?

How do public policy and legislation effect the concepts of guilt and shame?

What functions do programs like "The Jerry Springer Show" provide in American society? Has stigma lost its sting?
