Academic Model
Tier 1: Student Retention Programs
The Strategic Developmental Retention Plan for students works to facilitate student success from the pre-collegiate years to completion of the bachelor's degree. Students receive one-on-one consultations, academic workshops, tutoring, and peer mentoring. Upperclass students benefit from alumni mentoring and internships that facilitate their progressive entry into professional roles. By working with alumni, Multicultural Relations students are exposed to the vital contributions of alumni and are encouraged to become active alumni upon graduation. Thus, the Strategic Developmental Retention Plan supports student success while strengthening a multiethnic alumni base.
Tier 2: Campus Programming
Multicultural Relations increases campus diversity by conducting workshops, brown bag dialogues, and cross cultural training sessions. Additionally, Multicultural Relations supports multiethnic student organizations by serving as organizational advisors and co-sponsoring programmatic efforts. Multicultural Relations sponsors Black History programs as well as proceedings highlighting the accomplishments of Hispanic/Latinos, Asian/Pacific Islanders, and American Indian/Alaskan Natives. The Multicultural Awareness Festivities are Multicultural Relations' annual culminating event.
Tier 3: Linkages to the Campus Community
In addition to Multicultural Programming, Multicultural Relations collaborates with campus departments and committees in an effort to increase sensitivity to the unique needs and perspectives of the UM-St. Louis multiethnic student population.
