The Family Secret
Assemblage

The Family Secret commemorates the mystery of the unspeakable in a Midwest, plains genre. As an artist and retired art educator I use the medium, assemblage, as a voice to explore what it means to be human. Loving objects, which are aged and reflect history and tradition, are the artifacts I collect; they often wait years before finding their place. Hunting, gathering and piecing together become the major components of creative expression as these antique and commonplace objects are figuratively and symbolically utilized in small-scale assemblages. Enjoying the challenge of rearranging reality, altering perceptions, and integrating the past with the present, I utilize the surrealists, Joseph Cornell, and my family history to influence these images.
