Caprock
Canyons State Park, Texas & Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, Oklahoma
This trip will take
us into the canyonlands of Texas where we will see rugged terrain and visit
short-grass prairie, scarp woodlands, badlands, and canyon woodlands.
We will arrive late afternoon on Friday and head immediately out into the
field with park naturalist to explore the flora and fauna and learn about
wildlife management at the site. On Saturday, we will take an all
day hike that takes us through a number of the park's ecosystems including
short-grass prairie, scrub and canyon woodlands. On Sunday, we will
head home via the "Grand Canyons of Texas" with a stop in Wichita Mountains
Wildlife Refuge. Here we will see grasslands and look for prairie
dogs, bison, and Rocky Mountain elk.
