Douglas Smith is Professor of Management Science and

With over 35 years of academic and professional experience, he has served as principal investigator and project director for many sponsored studies in corporate and governmental settings, and as a consultant to major corporations in the United States, Canada and abroad. His sponsored research program has included the development of statistical models for forecasting and risk management in financial institutions, the simulation of service operations for mass transit, the simulation of vessel traffic and lockage operations in the Upper Mississippi River navigation system, the development of computer-based systems for dispatching vehicles in mass transit systems, the construction of analytical models for distribution of petroleum products by pipelines and trucks, the creation of analytical models for manpower planning and scheduling in service operations, strategic planning for municipal information systems, the design of research methodology for testing the integrity of national credit-reporting databases, and survey research for organizations in the public and private sectors.
