Making Student Discs for Excel Assignments
Format 3 disks to store your excel files:
- Format three 3 1/2 inch floppy high density disks
Create a place on your harddrive to copy zipped
files from course technology:
- If at home: Make a directory called C:/download on your harddrive
- If at school: Save to C:/docs/ when prompted (see below)
Copy zipped files from course technology:
- Go to Netscape
- Type http://www.course.com as the URL
- Select "Data Disk Files"
- Select "Spreadsheets"
- Select "Excel 97"
- Select "New Perspectives on Microsoft Excel 97 -- Comprehensive by Parsons, Oja & Ageloff
- Select "From FTP Site" for Level I Tutorials (file 4553-4d.exe)
- You will see the .exe file downloaded to your harddrive
- Select "From FTP Site" for Level II Tutorials (file 5260-3d.exe)
- You will see the .exe file downloaded from your harddrive
- Minimize Netscape
Unzip Level I tutorials and create first
student disk
- Open File Manager or Microsoft Explorer
- Select C:/download directory if at home
- Select C:/docs directory if at school
- Double click on 4553-4d.exe file. This is a zipped file.
- Select "Unzip"
- Your files will unzip and over 20 files will be copied to a new directory:
- C:/4553-4
- Two subfolders were created: C:/4553-4/DISK1 and C:/4553-4/DISK2
- Put one of your formatted 3 1/2 inch floppy disks in the A drive
- From file manager, put your cursor on the C:/4553-4/DISK1 folder on the C: drive
- From the FILE menu, select copy
- Hit return
- File Manager will ask you to specify COPY TO:
- Type A: and hit return
- All the files for tutorials 1-3 will be stored on this A: disk
Create second student disk:
- Next, put your second blank formatted 3 1/2 inch floppy disks in the A: drive
- From file manager or Microsoft Explorer, put your cursor on the C:/4553-4/DISK2 folder on the C: drive
- From the FILE menu, select copy
- Hit return
- File Manager/Microsoft Explorer will ask you to specify COPY TO:
- Type A: and hit return
- All the files for tutorials 4 will be stored on this A disk.
Unzip and create third student disk:
- In File manager or Microsoft Explorer
- Select C:/download directory if at home
- Select C:/docs if at school
- Double click on 5260-3d.exe file. This is a zipped file.
- Select "Unzip"
- Your files will unzip and over 20 files will be copied to a new directory:
- C:/5260-3
- Two subfolders were created: C:/5260-3/DISK1 and C:/5260-3/DISK2
- You only need the files contained in C:/5260-3/DISK1 subdirectory
- Put your third and final formatted 3 1/2 inch floppy disk in the A drive
- From file manager or explorer, put your cursor on the DISK1 folder pointing on the C: drive
- From the FILE menu, select copy
- Hit return
- File Manager or Explorer will ask you to specify COPY TO:
- Type A: and hit return
- All the files for tutorial 5 will be stored on this A disk
