Goals

Teach basic techniques for publishing and accessing materials on the Internet, as well as develop strategies for using this information in the classroom.

Present a "Multi-Platform" focus to enable flexibility, individuality, and freedom in the development of online courses.

Introduce of Blackboard's CourseInfo (v. 4) with updates on version 5.

Learning through (and by) example: We will be using the technologies we think are effective.  Participants are a critical part of the developmental process.  Feedback and shared experiences will allow for the ongoing improvement of the Institute.

Cautions

Integrating online technologies into courses will initially be a labor intensive enterprise.  You are developing a resource that can be improved over time, and remember--make use of the resources out there.

Developing online material is a step-by-step process.  Do not attempt to do it all the first time.  Expect problems and setbacks--the beautiful thing about online electronic resources is that they are just a collection of electrons and can be rearranged to suit individual needs.

Even experienced users can learn from a review and focus on basic techniques.  We will be focusing on basic skill sets, but will also strive to accommodate those pursuing more advanced techniques.

Planning for online course work means planning for interactivity and collaboration.  As instructors we must demonstrate the benefits of using these technologies to our students.
