Illegal Drug use

According to Goode the media brings in the concept of sensationalism when it comes to drug and drug culture. Media looks for and perhaps from the previous page constructs structural social problems. This means that media focuses stories about drug use on poverty, racism, inequality, violence, insanity, and genetics (121-122).

Mosher and Atkins suggest the media makes drug culture look bad by emphasizing use being harmful to children and families and also causing major health issues that may even result in death. Mosher and Atkins state, “it is necessary to deconstruct these myths” (4).

This and the information on the previous page show that we therefore need to examine the way the media looks at drug use and/or drug culture in order to expose some ways in which the media are biased.
