24 Hours with Technology Essay Grading Rubric

General Project Guidelines

Due: Monday, February 7, end of day

What is technology?: 4 points (present a critical definition based on readings and class discussion, relate to personal experience, and provide examples)

Forms of technology: 5 points (analyze and discuss the variety of forms technology can take—artifacts, forms of organization, etc.)

Social Dimensions: 5 points (how does technology in all its forms shape social processes and structures, and how do social processes shape technology)

How does technology enhance and/or limit interaction: 5 points (address the complexities of technology and human (especially individual) interaction.  Focus on how our definitions of ourselves and others are mediated through technology).

Links: 4 points (use of links to internal and external pages to support and document your ideas.  Includes insuring link to your page(s) is included on the “home page”).

Images: 4 points (use of images to support and enhance your ideas).

Spelling, grammar, and length of essay: 5 points (target—500 words)

Be sure to correctly cite all information used from research resources (in-text citations and a list of references for each page) using the ASA manuscript submission guide (local copy with web citation guidelines or a full version of the ASA Style Guide). Group presentation:  8 points (organization, summary/synthesis, coordination)

Minimum of 4 comments on other groups/individuals’ presentation: 10 (2.5 points per 100-125 word comment)

Grand total:  50 points
