International Admissions
To apply to the University of Missouri - St. Louis, prospective international students should follow the steps below:
Application Checklist
Undergraduate applicants
- Complete an application and pay the application fee
- Submit a signature card
- Send proof of English proficiency (a TOEFL/IELTS score)*
- Have official transcripts sent directly to International Student & Scholar Services (ISS)
*If you are graduating from a US high school, you may need to submit a different test
Graduate applicants
- Complete the steps above and submit other materials as required by the graduate program (i.e. test scores, reference letters, and/or writing samples)
- See UMSL's transcript recommendations for graduate applicants
- Have all items sent to ISS
Immigration Checklist
All regular F-1 and J-1 international students must also submit the following items. If you do not plan to receive an F or J visa, please contact ISS about what immigration items to submit:
- Copy of your passport
- Financial Support Form
- Original bank statement showing funds for one year of study
- Copy of your I-20 or DS-2019 (if you are currently in the US on a student visa)
*Do not send bank statements, transcripts, or test scores via email*

Processing Time: For undergraduate applications, allow 10 business days after all materials have been received. Graduate applications require at least 4-6 weeks depending on the department in question. Only complete applications will be reviewed.
Costs & Important Information
Privacy
An individual's records are only discussed with the student in question. If a person inquires on behalf of an applicant, the student must sign and submit an Authorization to Release Information. Note that admission decisions are not given out over the phone.
Financial Assistance
Scholarships for international students are limited. The Honors College awards financial assistance to high-performing individuals on a competitive basis. Undergraduate applicants who have been accepted to UMSL can fill out an additional application for the Honors College. A limited number of teaching and research assistantships are also available for graduate students.
Costs
Potential expenses to remember include: tuition and fees, meals, housing, books, mandatory health insurance, telephone, transportation, and personal expenses.
